Cameras Tracked Murder Suspect From Arena Area to City Bus

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said surveillance cameras tracked a murder suspect from near the Spectrum Center to a city bus, where officers arrested him.

Sean Lamont Dell, 49, has been charged with first-degree murder after a man was shot near East Fifth Street on Sunday and later died at a hospital.

Surveillance Showed the Route

Court documents described by WSOC-TV say video showed Dell following the victim along light-rail tracks before the shooting. Investigators said he then left the area on foot.

Police said surveillance footage later showed Dell boarding a Charlotte Area Transit System bus at the Charlotte Transportation Center.

Officers Stopped the Bus

Investigators stopped the bus and took Dell into custody. Police said they recovered a black backpack and a firearm.

Authorities have not publicly released a motive and have not said whether Dell knew the victim.

First-Degree Murder Charge Filed

Dell is charged with first-degree murder. The charge is an allegation, and he has not been convicted.

The case moved from a downtown shooting scene to a transit arrest through a sequence investigators say was captured by cameras across Uptown Charlotte.
