Kansas Babysitter Finds Man Hiding Under Child's Bed

A babysitter in Kansas discovered a man hiding under a child’s bed on the evening of March 24, 2025, after the child complained of a “monster.” The suspect, 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr., had previously lived at the residence but was prohibited from returning under an active protection from abuse order. He fled before deputies arrived and was arrested the following day after a foot chase.

A Routine Check Turns Dangerous

The babysitter was caring for children at a residence just outside Great Bend, Kansas. When a child expressed fear of something under the bed, she knelt to look - and came face-to-face with Villalobos. An altercation broke out immediately, during which one of the children was “knocked over,” according to ABC News. Villalobos then fled the scene. Law enforcement responded around 10:30 p.m. and launched a search that extended into the following morning.

Deputies spotted Villalobos in the same neighborhood the next day. He attempted to flee on foot but was arrested after a short chase. It remains unclear how long he had been hiding in the home or how he gained entry.

Charges

Villalobos was booked on requested charges including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order. Bond was set at $500,000.

Court records showed Villalobos had posted bond less than two weeks earlier on separate charges - including criminal threat, domestic battery, and a prior protection order violation from incidents in January and February 2025.
