Lakewood, California Man Fatally Shot His Brother

On Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025, a heated argument between two brothers inside a vehicle near the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and South Street in Lakewood, California ended in a fatal shooting. At approximately 2:40 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound beside a car. He was transported to a nearby hospital and later died from his injuries. The suspect, 48-year-old Antonio Ruiz Jr., was apprehended by deputies approximately a block and a half from the scene shortly after fleeing on foot. He was charged in connection with his brother’s death.

What Happened

According to the LASD, witnesses in adjacent lanes heard the argument before gunfire erupted inside the vehicle. Ruiz allegedly exited the car from the turn lane after the shooting. Investigators had not publicly released a motive at the time of reporting. Ruiz was held on $2 million bail; his next court date was scheduled for December 2, 2025. The investigation remained active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
