NJ Mom Found Stabbed at Home as Killer Remains Unknown

Death Initially Reported as Cardiac Arrest

Brooke Hanlon, 35, was found dead inside her Chester, New Jersey home on June 6, 2026. Emergency personnel initially responded to reports of a cardiac arrest on Pottersville Road. Investigators who arrived at the scene quickly determined something different had taken place.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the cause of death as multiple sharp-force injuries. The manner of death was determined to be homicide. A month after Hanlon’s body was discovered, no suspect has been identified and no arrest has been made.

Psychotherapist and New Mother

Hanlon was a licensed professional counselor and psychotherapist who worked in Bernardsville, New Jersey. She held a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Northeastern University. According to social media, she is survived by her husband, Conor Hanlon, and their daughter, Avery.

The family had posted a photo in December 2025 showing Hanlon holding an infant alongside her husband. Investigators have not publicly addressed whether the family was home at the time of the killing or released details about the circumstances inside the residence.

Three Agencies Investigating

The investigation is being jointly conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Chester Township Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. Authorities have not released details about a possible weapon, a motive, or whether any surveillance footage from the neighborhood has been reviewed.

Investigators have asked anyone who was in the area of Pottersville Road in Chester on June 6 to come forward, including those who may have noticed unusual activity that afternoon. The 911 call was made at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Reward Offered as Investigators Seek Leads

The Morris County Crime Stoppers program has posted a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Authorities have appealed to the community to report even details that may seem minor.

“Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding Hanlon’s death but emphasized that even information that may seem insignificant could prove valuable to the investigation,” according to a statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers line.

Investigation Ongoing With No Timeline Given

Fox News reported that authorities are actively searching for a suspect, describing the probe as a continuing manhunt. NewsNation noted that the case has drawn regional attention partly because of the initial misclassification of the death as a medical emergency.
