Tom Brady's NYC Card Store Robbed Days After Opening
By Jordan Mercer. Nov 27, 2025
A suspect stole nearly $10,000 worth of collectible baseball and Pokémon cards from Tom Brady’s CardVault store in SoHo, New York City, on October 20, 2025 - less than two weeks after the location officially opened. According to the NYPD, the suspect allegedly attempted to bypass the store’s payment system after a credit card transaction was declined, then fled the scene on foot. The NYPD’s Financial Crimes Task Force opened a grand larceny investigation.
The Theft and How It Unfolded
The CardVault SoHo location, situated on Lafayette Street, held its ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 7, 2025, and officially opened to the public on October 8. The theft occurred twelve days later, at approximately 11:40 a.m. According to the NYPD, the suspect attempted to purchase merchandise using a credit card. When the transaction was declined, he allegedly entered manual prompts into the contactless payment terminal without the employee’s knowledge in an effort to bypass the decline, as reported by PEOPLE.
After taking the merchandise, the suspect fled southbound on Lafayette Street. Surveillance footage captured the man - described as having a medium complexion and wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt, black shorts, white socks, and white sneakers - carrying a multicolored bag. The NYPD appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the suspect.
Investigation and Recovery Efforts
The NYPD’s Financial Crimes Task Force assumed responsibility for the case, classifying it as grand larceny. The store’s internal loss prevention team is cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation.
Officials noted that the stolen cards carry unique serial numbers and individual identifiers, which may assist in tracing the items if they are sold or transferred. No arrest had been announced as of initial reporting.
CardVault’s Expansion and Brady’s Involvement
Tom Brady acquired a stake in CardVault in 2020. The company operates retail locations across multiple U.S. cities, including Dallas, Chicago, Boston, East Rutherford, Foxborough, Mashantucket, and East Hampton, with a ninth location planned for the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. The SoHo store was designed to serve a broad range of collectors, offering buying, selling, trading, and card grading services.
The theft occurred at an early stage in the SoHo location’s operations, drawing attention to security considerations for high-value retail collectibles. CardVault has not issued a public statement regarding changes to store security protocols. The investigation remains active.
