Denise Richards Granted Restraining Order Against Estranged Husband

Actress Denise Richards, 54, was granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order by the Los Angeles Superior Court on July 16, 2025, against her estranged husband Aaron Phypers, whom she married in 2018. In court documents filed the same day, Richards alleged a pattern of physical violence and threats spanning their marriage. She accused Phypers of violently choking her, slapping her face and head, and slamming her head into a bathroom towel rack - injuries she said caused “at least three concussions.” She also alleged he held her down with his knee on her back, forcing her to plead for release, and that he hacked her laptop and phone to download private text messages without her consent.

The July 2025 Incidents

The most recent alleged incidents occurred around the time Phypers filed for divorce on July 7, 2025, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Richards described an incident on July 4 in which Phypers reportedly screamed degrading profanities at her and got “within two inches” of her face in a threatening manner. The following day, she alleged he grabbed her arms, pushed her, and dragged her to the ground, causing significant pain. Richards said she had been too afraid to report the abuse earlier out of fear that Phypers would harm himself or her. She also alleged he owned multiple unregistered firearms and bulletproof vests.

Phypers’ Response

Phypers publicly denied all allegations, calling them fabricated and stating he had never physically or emotionally abused Richards. He countered by accusing Richards of struggling with substance abuse and endangering their daughter. He disputed the timing and circumstances of any bruises she presented, suggesting alternative explanations. Richards’ restraining order request also asked that Phypers be required to complete a 52-week batterer intervention program and cover her legal expenses. The case was ongoing at the time of reporting.
