FIFA Banned an Argentina Midfielder for 10 Matches Over the World Cup Final Brawl and Fined the Federation 321,000 Dollars

The Sanctions

FIFA’s disciplinary committee has punished four players, one team official, and the Argentine Football Association over the brawl that followed the 2026 World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.

The penalties:

Leandro Paredes received a 10-match ban and a 90,000 dollar fine. Nahuel Molina received a 7-match ban and a 90,000 dollar fine. Thiago Almada and Gavi each received a 1-match ban and a 30,000 dollar fine. Roberto Ayala, an Argentina coach, received a 3-match ban and a 30,000 dollar fine.

The Argentine Football Association was fined 321,000 dollars.

Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time at MetLife Stadium. The fight came after.

According to the reporting on the disciplinary findings, Molina initiated the altercation by colliding with Rodri. Paredes then grabbed Eric Garcia by the throat and threw Gavi to the ground.

That sequence is why Paredes drew ten matches and Gavi - a Spain player - drew one. Both were involved. Only one is described as having a hand on an opponent’s throat.
