Wisconsin Newlyweds Found Fatally Shot in Their Car Days Before First

Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, were found dead inside their car on Route 14 near Harvard, Illinois, just before midnight on October 6, 2025 - six days before their first wedding anniversary. Each had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, and a firearm was recovered inside the vehicle. Police did not identify an ongoing threat to the community. A murder-suicide was considered a possible scenario, but no definitive determination had been reached as of initial reporting.

The Discovery

A Harvard Police Department officer on patrol noticed the vehicle stopped on the road with its hazard lights on. Upon approaching, the officer found both Rachel and Brandon unresponsive. The scene prompted road closures and a brief shelter-in-place advisory for nearby residents, which was quickly lifted. Police Chief Tyson Bauman stated that while a murder-suicide was being investigated as a possible scenario, the investigation remained active and the final coroner’s report was pending.

The Couple

Rachel and Brandon had been childhood friends for 15 years before becoming romantically involved in 2022. They married on October 12, 2024. Rachel, who graduated cum laude with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, was described in her obituary as known “for her drive, ambition, and compassion.” Brandon, a former U.S. Navy Petty Officer, was remembered by friends for his humor, warmth, and commitment to family.

Friends recalled a love story that began in middle school when Rachel reportedly stole cologne from Brandon’s locker. The couple had recently shared social media posts about future travel plans. The Harvard Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continued.
